Mogul 88

the plaque on the left reads:
This mural depicts a train mishap that occurred on May 27, 1953. The Canadian National Railway's First Lady of the Mogul Fleet No 88 was leading with 3506 as pilot. The coal tender 'split the switch' after the engine had passed over it and tried to move onto a siding. Both engines overturned with Mogul 88 lying on the lawn at the north-east corner of Ferguson and Rebecca Sts. None of the crew were injured and damage was slight.

Looks so violent - huge beasts on their sides!

Fantastic. I think in the US we find this really interesting 'cause we don't have many trains anymore and thus fewer train wrecks but they could be quite spectacular. What I like about this mural is that it's very dramatic and also that it isn't just a flowery view of like in the good ol' days, but tells it like it was - sometimes dangerous!

That is amazing, the history AND the mural. What gorgeous work.

This mural is a bit of a downer compared to others I've seen today. But I guess it's good to remember the sadder side of history as well!
