I know nothing about this gravestone, except that I find the tilted block of granite to be most unusual. It sits at the edge of the cemetery and you can just see the fence on the far right separating it from York Blvd. In between the trees is framed the tower of the gatehouse.

I've always found these types of memorials a bit strange and dangerous...

I like. It's somewhat unique and quite beautiful!
This is the Hamilton Cemetery (across from Dundurn Castle)
Maybe the person that rests here was a sculptor.
It's quite modern and I would imagine very expensive ... definitely different to the othere headstones in the background and perhaps people of distinction!!
It is a very unusual tomb marker. Maybe a mathematician?

I suppose it was the choice of the daughter, and erected by her descendants. To me, it is very Frank Lloyd Wright ... no sure why.
What I am noticing as I travel from blog to blog, is that many cemeteries in North America seem not to have pathways between graves, that the cemetery is one large grassed area with a smattering of markers. Here in Australia, we are regimented into rows. Often the older graves are surrounded by wrought-iron fences. The layout is similar to that for housing estates - back to back with a pathway. Europe is a bit similar, although my higgardly-piggardly. Maybe it is our wide open spaces, and need to be in control.
When I come to think of it, I wonder how that block of granite stays on its point like that?
that is very interesting stone Dont think Ive seen another headstone like that.. but there is a large replica of this type stone in NYC its on 8th street and it rotates--its right by the #6 subway entrance...and kind of a landmark for this area.
It sure is different and eye catching. It is quite neat and arty for a grave stone.
It says who it's erected by (bottom left) - can't make out the full name, but it starts with an "F", so not the daughter. Eye-catching, and easy to find, which may be the point.
It is a very original way of putting a gravestone this way.

Very unusual marker! The 'erected by' name appears to be 'Frank'. It would be interesting to learn more about it.
This is different for sure. It seems I've seen a number of them lately where an adult child is memorialized with the parents. By the way, it was delightful to be able to really enlarge the image. I hate what Blogger has done with our images in recent months :-(
Right, Julie, most of our graveyards don't have a lot of paths.
