celtic cross

and knots

Knotwork's meaning defies literal translation and the symbolism is obscure. The repeated crossings of the physical and the spiritual are expressed in the interlace of the knots. It could be the never ending path of the strand represents the permanence and the continuum of life, love and faith. (source)

I did go back for a walk through the cemetery to see if I could get the name on this cross headstone, but I have no idea where where I saw it.

An especially nice photo of a Celtic cross...as for what it all means, I'll be happy to accept your musings as correct or close to correct! :-)

Golly, this is superb masonry carving. And I agree with Gemma, the bare interlacing boughs add an eerie feel to the image. I loved your reference to the source material, and its injunction against 'loose ends' and what they reveal. This is relevant to the whole of life, not just to knots.

I cannot see a treatise on knots without immediately zapping out to Proulx and her use of 'The Ashley Book of Knots'.

Thanks yet again for your contribution to Taphophile Tragics. I appreciate the feeling of community that is gathering around us.

Lovely Celtic cross, and I like how you framed it with trees.
