As you are coming into your summer, I will forgive the library for having the chairs facing AWAY from the fire. This looks like it might be a very cosy library in which to sit and read, rather than simply choose and scarper.
I certainly hope they light the thing for those cold Ontario winters! What a delight - to go to the library, pick up a book to peruse, and sit in front of the fire.
It is a working wood burning fireplace, but they don't light any fires in it for safety reasons. it is a shame but since this one is on the childrens area, I can understand.
it is very cosy. and I have never seen a fireplace in any library before. I had to wait for a mom and her toddler to leave before snapping this photo (she was eyeing me very carefully,even though it was an open house day and I asked permission from the librarian) but, I understand,
