But ... I can SEE vehicles on the bridge ... to start with I thought you might have meant the wings of the birdie ...

the skyway bridge, which is a highway, is fine, but the lift bridge (which is a local, alternate route) cannot be lowered so all vehicles have to be diverted.

Growing up in Duluth, Minnesota, one of the joys of life was going down to watch the lift-bridge lift...then on our honeymoon some years later, we drove over the lift-bridge (when it was down!) on our way home to Minneapolis.

Re your comment on Ocala DP yesterday: I agree!

Wow - I hope they don't have to close the skyway for winds or anything else!

mmm ... I am not sure why a lift bridge lifts ... where does it life one too? I gather it's the orange one.

this (orange) bridge lifts in order to let cargo ships and tankers through to the port (and also boats with tall masts)
this shot is from the Lake Ontario side with the port being on the bay side.

I bet the auto people are not happy campers. I have never experienced one getting stuck like this, but it could certainly happen. Love your capture, but I am wondering what that is flying gin the sky...is a plane or a bird. My eyes are just not good enough to tell. genie

That must be pretty inconvenient for drivers. Interesting construction style. - Margy
